Oh I think I get this Ok, the only problem I'm having then is the bit where it goes: "What numerical evidence can be given to support your claim?" I honestly don't understand this. But thank you both for help with the first bit!

My guess would be the mesitylene. Don't think that the difference in one isopropyl substituent compared to a methyl substituent is that big.

Three nuclear reactors melted down at the Fukushima-I Nuclear Power Plant following the Tohoku Earthquake of March 11 this year, resulting in the release of volatile fission products in what is widely regarded as the worst nuclear accident since Chernobyl.  Radionuclides were carried by air currents across eastern Japan.  Areas closer to the stricken plant [...]

  • There is No Slam Dunk

Every day I’m reminded that there is no slam dunk in business. Everything is hard work and perseverance. Even apparently simple things are fraught with complications and layers of nuance.  The great appeal of gambling that some find so convincing is that complexity and vexing details have been somehow suspended and a path is clear for the [...]

This week’s Chemistry in its element podcast tells the tragic tale of Wallace Carothers’ discovery of nylon. The compound drove American women to riot over the availability of stockings, but couldn’t save Carothers from his depression.

So I’ll come clean. I am a fan of Gold Rush Alaska on the Discovery Channel. The new season has started with some serious twists. What I like about the show is the technical side. What should you do if a raw material for a process is explosive? Good question. Just because a material has explosive properties does not automatically disqualify it for use. To use it safely you must accumulate some information on the type and magnitude of stimulus that is required to give a hazardous release of energy. [...]

  • What is evil?

    Updated: 2011-10-19 23:04:35
One of the things that neuroscience is doing today is the mechanistic examination of many conditions that we previously assumed to exist. Like the matter of evil. How do you digest refractory materials down to homogeneous solutions that themselves need to be contained in something even more refractory? Obviously, it is done all of the time. [...]

Our next play, Dearly Departed, is in production. I play a character named Royce. This part has some pretty good lines. I’ve always played some fairly minor characters.
